At Fortnight, campers work alongside craftspeople with decades of experience in carpentry, construction, and the arts. Through hands on experience, the campers learn exactly what they can do away from video games and computer screens. They gain knowledge of and appreciation for the built objects and designed spaces that exist all around us.
At the same time, they are given the opportunity to use the physics and mathematics they learn in school in a real world setting. No one wants to walk on a beam built by a team that is not in command of forces, angles, and load limits—especially 30 feet off the ground! In this sense, Fortnight is really a treetop classroom where students find the answer to a perennial question: “When will I ever need to use this equation?”
