Along with dedicated and inspiring camp counselors, Fortnight staffs professional builders and craftspeople to mentor campers. These mentors not only help campers learn the basics skills of operating a saw or drafting up plans, they also guide students through the greater project of bringing an idea to reality. Is the plan feasible? Can we accomplish it with the tools available? How can we learn the skills we need in time, and what are our backup plans? At each step of the process, our experienced leaders help campers realize that most anything is possible if they don’t give up.
Students are also able to take on additional projects with their counselors, who are able to offer them introductions to a wide variety of skills and crafts. Last year, mentorships were available in poetry, cooking, foraging, blacksmithing, jewelry-making, and book-binding, all of which were practiced by campers alongside the main building project.
